The right word to say "theme" in English is by using the words "topic" or "subject". When you are in an uncomfortable situation and you just want to steer the conversation in a new direction the way to say is " let´s changing topic (or changing the subject) because I don't want to talk about it" but you can never say let's change the theme. The word "theme" refers to your computer "theme" or mobile "theme". Remember that!
Image now you are in a meeting and you simply want to move on to another subject the way to say it will be "let´s us move on to another matter , or moving on to another subject".
